Introduction

Hi friends!
Today we are learning about a farm animal… the chicken!
Did you know that before a chick hatches, it grows inside an egg for many days?
A chicken's life cycle has six exciting stages. We can watch it grow from a tiny egg into a full-grown chicken!
Let's discover each stage together!

The Chicken Life Cycle

Chickens grow in stages


1. Egg

A mother hen lays an egg.
The egg has everything the baby chicken needs to grow.
The hen keeps the egg warm.

Key idea
The chicken's life begins inside an egg.


2. Embryo

Inside the egg, a tiny embryo begins to grow.
The embryo slowly develops a beak, wings, legs, and eyes.
It uses nutrients from the yolk for food.

Key idea
The baby chicken develops inside the egg.


3. Hatchling

After about 21 days, the baby chicken cracks the shell.
This process is called hatching.
The hatchling works hard to break out of the egg.

Key idea
The hatchling emerges from the egg.


4. Chick

The chick is now fully out of the shell.
It is small, fluffy, and covered with soft down feathers.
The chick eats, drinks, and grows quickly.

Key idea
The chick begins life outside the egg.


5. Young Chicken

The chick grows larger.
Soft down feathers are replaced by adult feathers.
The young chicken learns to scratch the ground and find food.

Key idea
The young chicken grows stronger and more independent.


6. Adult Chicken

The chicken becomes fully grown.
Adult hens lay eggs.
Adult roosters protect the flock.
The life cycle begins again when new eggs are laid.

Key idea
Adult chickens reproduce and start the cycle again.
