A. Expressing regrets and wishes allows us to reflect on the past and imagine how things could have been different, which can be helpful in conversation and self-reflection.


Wish
➧ Used to express a desire for something to be different, either in the present or past.

If only
➧ Similar to "wish," but often used to emphasize regret or a strong desire for change.


Present wish
➧ I wish I had more time.

Past regret
➧ If only I had studied harder.

Wish + Past Simple
➧ If + past simple, would + base verb
➧ Used to express a desire for something to be different in the present.

Examples

Wish + Past Perfect
➧ To express regret about something that happened or didn't happen in the past.

If only
